Lady Gaga 'Grateful' Dog Walker Is Recovering After Shooting, Dognapping

Lady Gaga feels “emotional and grateful” that her dog walker is recovering and her two French bulldogs have been safely recovered after last week’s violent dognapping incident.

Last Wednesday (February 24), Ryan Fischer had been walking the singer’s three dogs in Hollywood at around 9:40 p.m. before two armed thieves ambushed and shot him multiple times in the chest before making off with two of Gaga’s three pooches, Koji and Gustav. The third, Asia, was recovered unharmed.

Thankfully, the “Shallow” singer’s stolen dogs were safely recovered two days later, but the incident landed Fischer in the hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

"She was very emotional and grateful," an insider told PEOPLE of Gaga, who had been abroad in Italy during the dognapping.

"[When] she got the terrible news from Los Angeles, she was extremely upset,” they continued. “She was worried about her friend and her dogs. It was a terrible start to her Italian work trip."

Fischer recounted his "very close call with death" in graphic detail via an Instagram post shared on March 1.

"I am still in recovery from a very close call with death and have kept myself (for the most part, I mean I am human) from the growing media story. I will write and say more later, but the gratitude for all the love I feel from around this planet is immense and intense," he wrote at the time.

"I felt your healing support! Thank you. I am humbled and grateful that attention and focus from the police were enough to get Koji and Gustav back to safety, and I know they are committed to bringing these criminals and attempted murderers to justice. I am so appreciative of everything you continue to do."
