Selena Gomez Says Taylor Swift Was There For Her When She Didn't Expect It

US-GRAMMY-ARRIVALS

It’s no secret Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are besties. The two have a history that goes way back to their romantic entanglements with Jonas Brothers, Nick and Joe. WSJ took a deep dive into Selena’s life preambling her highly anticipated album, Rare. The 27-year old opened up about her relationship with Taylor, and disclosed the emotional troubles the two have battled side-by-side behind the cameras.

“There’s so much of my friendship with Taylor that people don’t know about because we don’t necessarily feel the need to post about everything we do,” Gomez said. “She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world. We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.”

Taylor has played an important role in helping to advise Selena on the sound of her new album. She has acknowledged that the vulnerability of Rare is reminiscent of a younger Selena before the high exposure of her life.

“I remember Taylor said when I played her some of the new songs, ‘I feel like I’m seeing who you were before this,’ ” Gomez opened up about the emotional moment. “That makes me happy. I like feeling like that girl again.”

“This is the first time I’ve heard her truly channel the details of her emotional experience,” said Taylor. “I just thought, Wow, she’s finally allowing herself to let other people know things aren’t always OK. You can be vulnerable and lonely and independent and strong and brave and scared all at once.”

Selena recently joined iHeartRadio for an emotional album release party, detailing the rollercoaster it was throughout the 4 year process of creating Rare. The songstress went into great detail about what it meant to create her first-ever No. 1 song, “Lose You to Love Me.

“I’ve kept the recording of the songs from two years ago, three years ago, [and] I’m really glad,” she explained, adding that if she had rushed it, emotional and cumulative track “Lose You to Love Me” wouldn’t exist. “… It never felt like it was complete. … I gained so much confidence and understanding of who I am,” she said in regards to binary tracks “Lose You to Love Me” and “Look At Her Now.”
